Ystad Saltsjöbad

Named as the best spa resort by Haute Grandeur Global Hotel Awards and World Luxury Spa Award in 2016, Ystad Salsjöbad is the ideal getaway for pure wellness and relaxation.

Ystad Saltsjöbad is a beachfront hotel located in Skånes most beautiful coast at Österlen in Ystad and was built in 1879. Ystad Saltsjöbad 's spa, Salt Creek Spa, offers a wide range of facial and body massages and therapeutic treatments such as hot stone massage and cupping. You can see the full spa catalog here.

What we liked the most about Ystad Saltsjöbad was the overall relaxing/laid down vibe in the hotel and the different facilities the spa hotel has to offer. We walked around in our robes all day, from one room to another, each room with a different theme offering a variety of snacks!

Ystad Saltsjöbad has a very Scandi chic inspired interior with white as the dominant color throughout the hotel, so it was very soothing to the eye.

My personal favorite was the white room facing the beach, with dozens of beds that you can lay on while enjoying the view of the sunset/sunrise!

We would also recommend trying their lunch buffet! The spa hotel oozes of wellness and that also reflects on their menu. The buffet consisted of hot dishes with light meats as chicken and fish complimented with a salad buffet. YUM! My personal favorite was the roasted potatoes 😀 !!  YUMMY

We did not get to try Vita during our stay though, only Port. Port is their new Swedish-American seafood restaurant. It is here that both the breakfast and lunch buffet is served. For breakfast, they had a wide range of cold cuts, bread, cereals, juice and hot dishes such as bacon, scrabbled eggs, beans etc. Our favorite was their waffle station where you get to make your own waffles. We recommend you to drown it with nutella or whipped creme! They also have a gluten free station, for those with gluten intolerance/allergy.

We did not go out to eat during our stay so we ate the majority of our meals at Port. Ports menu's emphasis is on seafood and vegetables. We ordered oysters for starters and their lemon tart for dessert both nights we were there! MMMMM.... they were delicious! <3

Port has a outdoor terrace suitable for summer nights, but unfortunately we were there during the fall so it was too cold to eat dinner outside, but we enjoyed the view of the terrasse with its outdoor lights and the view of the ocean while eating dinner.

All hotel guests have free access to the spa area to the SPA from 3.00pm on the day of arrival to 3.00pm on the day of departure. Unfortunately, our package did not include any treatment, but we were free to use the spa facilities. They had 2 relax rooms, one facing the ocean (our favorite) and one with a fireplace in the center of the room.

Both rooms are decorated differently, the one facing the ocean is very brightly decorated with a colder feel, and the other one a dark oak bedroom theme with the fireplace in the center. As mentioned, our favorite was the room facing the ocean. It is the ideal place in the hotel to enjoy the sunset view.

At the same room as the 2 relax rooms is a bar where you can order drinks and more snacks that you can enjoy in the rooms.

The spa area has 3 outdoor warm pools, 2 indoor pools sauna, and steam baths. Despite our visit being within the fall season, the weather was surprisingly good with a lot of sun. It was warm enough for us to enjoy the sun in the outdoor pools. The water in the warm pools were very hot though, not just lukewarm, perfect for the chilly weather.

Aside from the pools in the spa area, Ystad Saltsjöbad also has a main pool surrounded by sunbeds and cabanas where you can enjoy drinks, open sandwiches and snacks from their café.

Ystad has 140 rooms including 2 suites and 10 mini-suites. We stayed in their Main Suite facing the Baltic. The room was very spacious with a living room area and a jacuzzi. The interior of the room seems to be a combination of New England meets Scandinavian interior which we thing is a good combination of old and new interior styles.

Take a look at how comfy the bed looks! We got ourselves some good nights sleep after long days of wellness!

There is not much around the area than the hotel itself, which was okay with us since we were there to relax and escape from the outside world. Though, if it gets too quiet for you and you need a dose of the outside world, there is a walking street 30 mins walking distance away from the hotel, where there are several restaurants, stores, and bars.

Ystad is no more than 2.5 hours’ drive from anywhere in southern Sweden. Ystad Saltsjöbad is 5 minutes’ drive from the train station and the terminals for the continental ferries and the Bornholm boats. Ystad has been a place to meet and trade for centuries. This is largely due to its convenient location, wherever you come from.
